WIARTON, Ont. — The Wiarton Propeller Club has successfully completed its Seniors Luncheon Learn series, made possible by a $4,680 grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce awarded in spring 2025. A volunteer committee delivered 11 midweek sessions combining educational presentations with a nutritious, home-prepared lunch, covering topics such as fraud prevention, seniors’ nutrition, dementia, home care, hospice services, VON programs, and community resources. What began as a small pilot quickly surpassed expectations, drawing strong interest and engagement from the local senior community.
Across the 11 sessions, 535 seniors attended, coming not only to learn but to socialize and connect over a healthy meal. Organizers say the program clearly demonstrated how important shared experiences are in reducing social isolation and supporting active, healthy aging. Buoyed by the positive response, the club plans to continue and expand the Luncheon Learn program and extends sincere thanks to Community Foundation Grey Bruce, its fundholders, and Stuart Reid for making the initiative possible.
The Wiarton Propeller Club’s mission is to create a welcoming, equal, inclusive, and accessible space where everyone in the community can connect, learn, and thrive. We provide programs and services that bring people together, reduce isolation, and support well-being, focusing on seniors, families, and vulnerable populations.
Our goal is to build a strong, caring community where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to participate, regardless of age, ability, or background. Together, we foster connections, celebrate diversity, and create opportunities for everyone to belong.
Founded in 1949 by local sailors and their families, the Wiarton Propeller Club has always been about bringing people together. Originally a gathering place for sailors, it grew into a hub for community events, fundraisers, and local programs. Over the years, the club has supported scholarships, sports, and meal programs, all while hosting countless celebrations and meetings.
The Propeller Club is a community-driven organization with no religious or political affiliations. Our focus is simple: helping people and making our town better. We support sports, recreation, healthcare, and charitable initiatives while offering a space where people of all ages can connect, volunteer, and make a difference.
We need leaders, volunteers, and fresh ideas to keep making an impact. Whether you're looking to give back, meet new people, or support a cause, the Propeller Club welcomes you.
